Why We Made NandiG Completely Free: Our Mission to Democratize Society Security in India

Security is a Fundamental Right, Not a Luxury Amenity
When the founding team of NandiG first began analyzing the landscape of society management and gate security software in India, we noticed a deeply disturbing trend. The market was bifurcated into two extreme models, both of which ultimately failed the average Indian housing society.
On one end of the spectrum were highly commercialized, aggressive "freemium" applications. On the other end were bloated, expensive enterprise software suites. Both models operated on a philosophy of extraction rather than empowerment. We realized that middle-class, affordable housing societies—which constitute the vast, overwhelming majority of urban living in India—were being completely left behind.
They could not justify paying premium subscription fees, so they were stuck relying on dangerous paper registers, chaotic WhatsApp groups, and sheer luck to manage their security. We believed this was unacceptable. Basic safety, such as knowing exactly who is entering your building, should not be a luxury reserved only for ultra-premium apartment complexes.
This realization birthed the core philosophy of NandiG: We would build the most advanced, privacy-first society management platform in the country, and we would give the core software to Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) completely free of charge.
The Problem with the Status Quo
To understand why a free, privacy-first model is so disruptive, we must first examine the exploitative models that currently dominate the market.
The Enterprise Trap: High Costs, Low Adoption
Many established software providers treat housing societies like corporate enterprises. They charge massive onboarding fees, followed by hefty annual maintenance contracts (AMCs) that can range from ₹50,000 to over ₹1,00,000 per year, depending on the number of flats.
For a mid-sized society operating on a tight maintenance budget, this expense is simply unjustifiable. The RWA committee must answer to the residents for every rupee spent. Proposing a massive software expense often leads to fierce pushback during Annual General Meetings. Consequently, the society abandons the idea of modernization and reverts to the ₹150 paper register.
The Freemium Trap: You Are the Product
Other companies entered the market offering "free" or heavily subsidized software. However, in the tech world, if you are not paying for the product, you are the product.
These freemium apps quickly revealed their true business models. They treated residents as a captive audience for aggressive advertising. Once a resident downloaded the app to approve a visitor, they were bombarded with push notifications offering home loans, grocery deliveries, plumbing services, and insurance policies.
Worse, many of these platforms engaged in aggressive data mining. They harvested the personal phone numbers, flat details, and behavioral data of the residents and sold this information to third-party marketing agencies as "highly qualified local leads." The very software that was supposed to protect the society's privacy was actively exploiting it.
Building NandiG: A New Paradigm
We recognized that RWAs needed a third option: a platform that offered enterprise-grade technology without the enterprise price tag, and without compromising the digital privacy of the residents.
We built NandiG to solve the exact problems we were facing in our own housing societies. We engineered a platform that handles complex role-based access, instant SignalR-powered gate approvals, dynamic polling, and emergency SOS alerts. And we decided to give it away.
Our Ironclad Promise to RWAs
When an RWA signs a Master Service Agreement to onboard NandiG, they are protected by our ironclad guarantees:
- Zero Software Cost: There are no onboarding fees, no monthly software subscriptions, and no hidden charges for utilizing the core gate management and communication features.
- Zero Data Monetization: We do not sell, rent, or share user data with third-party marketing agencies. Your resident list is a sacred database, not a product to be sold.
- Zero Intrusive Ads: We will never send spam push notifications to your residents. The app communicates strictly regarding society matters: visitors, announcements, and emergencies.
- Full DPDP Compliance: As detailed in our privacy architecture, NandiG masks visitor phone numbers and provides instant data-erasure tools to ensure your society remains legally compliant.
The Obvious Question: How Do We Survive?
When we present this model to a skeptical RWA Secretary, the immediate, valid question is always: "If the software is free and you don't sell data, how does NandiG make money? Are you going to shut down in a year?"
Transparency is critical to building trust. NandiG is a sustainable, profitable business. However, we monetize through highly specialized, optional B2B and value-added services, not by taxing the RWA for basic software.
1. Premium Hardware Integrations
While the NandiG software is free, many premium societies wish to upgrade their physical infrastructure. We offer optional, seamless hardware integrations. If an RWA wants to install automated UHF Boom Barriers that scan resident cars and open automatically, or biometric fingerprint scanners for their maintenance staff, we supply, install, and integrate this enterprise hardware into the NandiG software for a fee.
2. Vendor & Corporate Partnerships
Rather than advertising to residents, we provide structured, B2B services to the large facility management companies, security agencies, and vendor networks that service the societies. By providing these corporate entities with powerful fleet management and scheduling APIs that integrate with the NandiG ecosystem, we generate sustainable enterprise revenue.
3. Optional Premium Modules
In the future, we will introduce highly specialized, optional modules—such as complex accounting ledgers for the society treasurer or legal audit integrations. While the core security and community features will forever remain free, these advanced financial tools will be offered as an optional upgrade for societies that outgrow basic accounting software.
Welcome to the Future of Society Management
We believe that a rising tide lifts all boats. By building the best, fastest, and most privacy-focused tool on the market, and making it freely accessible to every society regardless of their maintenance budget, we can digitally transform millions of homes across India.
We are on a mission to eradicate the paper register and secure the perimeters of our urban communities. By rejecting the exploitative models of the past, NandiG represents a new, ethical standard in prop-tech. We invite your managing committee to join the revolution. Experience enterprise-grade security, absolutely free. Welcome to NandiG.
